Céleste Boursier-Mougenot

It’s great when someone introduces you to a cool band, and it’s even cooler if it’s from a foreign land. But it’s on a whole other level when we’re turned on to cool music by another species.

French musician and composer Celeste Boursier-Mougenot, has used the everyday and created something sensationally new and unique. I love hearing birds sing in the morning when I’m picking up the paper, but with the help with Mr. Mougenot I can now mosh to the music of birds.

My friend (who is a big fan of Finches) shared this link with me and now I’ve become fond of these these rock stars. This was his first time with Barbican, as well as his first solo UK exhibition. The audio was amplified in another room where guests could listen to the “band” jamming out. By allowing the birds to do their everyday activities in a aviary (that just so happened to have guitars, cymbals, and bass guitars, installed) the finches create a composition that they perform as a group.

Magnifique! Bravo!
