My favourite song by Andy Kaufman titled “I trusted you.” It’s such a simple line that could mean anything but it’s because of that it’s amazing. I love how he says this line and how it’s so easy to laugh at and yet it is impossible not to be reminded of a time when you said the same exact thing.

A funny similarity that I’ve noticed is how pop music really isn’t any different then what Andy is doing here. Its one simple thought that is drawn out so long but the simple variations is what breaks the repetitive annoyance and keeps us listening and looking for any subtleties. Maybe he should use a “oo baby” and “baby girl” here and there. Or maybe they should just keep rambling the chorus like a million times, it’s a guaranteed knockout if you yell it out loud and look enthusiastic when you say it.

It’s a shame he’s gone but i’m sure where ever he is, he takes comfort that entertainers to this day study every step he took with a magnifying glass, and can’t stop laughing no matter how many times they revisit his work.

In Andy we trust…
